Welcome!

We are so glad you found our online home. Our chapter was named after the first Lieutenant Governor of Illinois, Pierre Menard. Members are passionate about DAR objectives of historic preservation, education, and patriotism! Perhaps you have seen the marker we placed at our county courthouse commemorating the Eighth Judicial Circuit that Abraham Lincoln served by horseback. Maybe you have noticed the plaque placed at the courthouse to honor Revolutionary War soldiers buried in Menard County. We have marked the individual graves of many of those patriots and volunteer much time and resources to today's veterans and military men and women serving in harm's way. We host essay contests for students, distribute flags, and construct displays honoring Constitution Week. No matter what your interest, there is probably a DAR project to match it!

Membership

Over two hundred years ago, American patriots fought and sacrificed for the freedoms we enjoy today. As a member of DAR, through participation in the Society's various programs and activities, you can continue this legacy. Today's DAR members come from many different backgrounds. Our diversity is what makes us interesting and strong.

Do you have a Revolutionary War patriot in your family line? To become a member of DAR, a woman must be at least 18 years old and be able to prove blood descent from a person who rendered patriotic service during the American Revolution. Membership honors and preserves the legacy of your patriot ancestor. Your ancestor did not have to fight in the American Revolution for you to be eligible. Perhaps he or she provided food or shelter for the troops or was a citizen who signed an oath of allegiance to our new country. Many contributions are acceptable.  Here is a link for more information. There are ladies in our chapter available to help get you started on becoming a member. Our meeting dates vary from September through May. Contact our regent if you would like to attend one of our meetings.
