John Comfort was born 1725, in Newtown (now Elmhurst) Queens, New York the son of Benjamin Comfort and Elizabeth Haywood. Benjamin Comfort Sr was born abt 1690 in Washington, North Kingston, Rhode Island and died about 1770, in Montgomery, Orange County, New York. His wife, Elizabeth Haywood was born April 22, 1709 in Shaw, Lancashire, England and died August 4, 1731 in Queens, Livingston County, New York.

John Comfort’s service during the American Revolutionary War was with the Ulster County New York Militia 4th Regiment under Captain Uriar Drake, Captain William Samuel & Lieutenant James Hawes, and Orange County Militia, 4th Regiment under colonel John Hathorn. John married Annatje Maule, daughter of Christoffel Maule and Anna Sargusch, abt 1750. She was born April 17, 1726, in Montgomery, Orange County, New York and died in Orange County, January 7, 1825 (conflicting sources also list date of death as November 1794 and 1805). John died October 1, 1795, in Montgomery, Orange County, New York and is buried there in the Brick Church Cemetery but there is no listing for Annatje. His will was probated in Orange County, on July 14, 1796. John and Annatje were the parents of the following children, all born in Montgomery, Ulster County, New York: Hannah April 30, 1751; Rachel July 13, 1754; Mary February 3, 1756; John 1758; Samuel 1760; Benjamin 1758; Sarah Sally November 14, 1765; Deborah April 30, 1768; Daniel May 5, 1771; and Susannah June 11, 1777.

Daniel Comfort, son of John and Annatje Comfort, was born May 5, 1771 in Montgomery Ulster County, New York, and died Crawford, Orange County, New York, eptember 12, 1854. He married Phoebe Fulton on June 9, 1796 in Montgomery, Ulster County, New York, daughter of James Fulton and Nancy Cunningham. She was born May 25, 1777, at Edinburgh, Scotland and died April 16, 1864, in Montgomery County. Daniel and Phoebe are buried in the Brick Church Cemetery, Montgomery, Orange County, New York. They were the parents of Eleanor, Hannah, Nancy, Andrew, Ruth, James Fulton, Alamson/Alanson, Theodore Sutherland, Malinda Anne, Phebe Marie, Catherine Sears, Daniel Harvey, and Joseph Virgil.

Andrew Comfort, son of Daniel and Phebe Fulton Comfort, was born December 22, 1802 in Ulster County, New York and died June 3, 1887, in Montgomery, Orange County, New York. He married Rachel Youngblood, daughter of Daniel Youngblood and Hannah Synsebaugh, on November 30 1826, in Montgomery. She was born August 20, 1808, and died November 3, 1898. The two are buried among family in the Brick Church Cemetery New, Montgomery County, New York. They were the parents of Mary Ann, William Youngblood, Augustus Daniel, Marian, Ruth, Hannah Maria, Rachel Ophelia, Reeve, Andrew and Gertrude Van Cott.

Daniel Augustus Comfort was the son of Andrew Comfort and Rachael Youngblood. Born March 20, 1836, in Bethel, Sullivan County, New York, he died January 4, 1913, at Stevensville, New York. He married Mary Lucky Van Keuren October 10, 1860, daughter of Peter Van Keuren and Sally Luckey. Mary was born September 1, 1838 in New Hackensack, Dutchess County, New York and died at Bethel, Sullivan County, New York on August 17, 1920. Both are buried in the Van Keuren Cemetery, Sullivan County. They were the parents of Pierson Eugene Howard and Lillian Augusta.

Pierson Ellsworth Comfort was the son of Daniel Comfort and Mary Van Keuren. He was born July 28 1861, in Bethel, Sullivan County, New York and died October 21, 1951, in Liberty, Sullivan County. He would marry Florence Margaret Lamb on September 19, 1881 in Cooks Falls, Delaware County, New York, daughter of Rowland Lamb and Margaret Parks. She was born September 8, 1863, in Cooks Falls and died October 10, 1936 at Swan Lake, Sullivan County. They were the parents of Roy, Amy Van Keuren, Raymond, Ross Charles, Reeve Baldwin, Blanche, Ralph S, and Florence.

Ross Charles Comfort was the son of Pierson and Florence Comfort. Born April 27, 1895, at Swan Lake, New York, he died June 23, 1952, in Liberty, New York. He married Marion Elizabeth Smith, daughter of Harry T. Smith and Cora Mae Stephenson on December 8, 1923. She was born January 24, 1905 at Liberty, Sullivan County, New York and died April 15, 1968, at Liberty. The two are buried in the Evergreen Cemetery, Bethel Sullivan County, New York. They were the parents of Robert R, Virginia L, and Joan.

Joan Mardell Comfort was the daughter of Ross Comfort and Marion Smith. She was born on March 8, 1934, at Liberty, Sullivan County, New York. On August 8, 1854, at Liberty, she would marry Donald F. Mapes. The son of Herbert M. and Winifred Keeler Mapes, Don was born at Troy, Rensselaer County, New York and died December 20, 2023 at Naperville, Will County, Illinois.
