Conrad Reedy served in the Revolutionary War as a Pvt, in Capt. George Smether's Co; 7th class; 7th Co. of the 6th Battalion of Northampton County Militia of the Continental Line from Heidelberg. Conrad joined the company on May 12, 1781 and was discharged July 12, 1782 (PA Archives, 5th Series Book 4, pg. 340). Conrad was also part of the 6th Battalion, 7th class and appeared on the muster rolls of Colonel Stephen Balliet on July 11, 1781 with 2 of his brothers ‐ Abraham and George Peter (PA Archives, 5th series, Vol 8 pg. 525). The original roll is in the possession of the Division of Archives, Harrisburg, PA, and may be found in the Fifth Series, Vol. 8, pgs. 469‐472.

Conrad was the first native born Reedy of our family line. His father Johann Jacob, uncle Peter, and his grandfather, Johann Jacob Riedi, arrived on the ship Samuel, from Rotterdam, and registered at the United States Immigration Office in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 27, 1739. When Conrad Reedy was born on 19 October 1747, in Lehigh, Pennsylvania, United States, his father, Johann Jacob Riedy/Riedi, was 30 and his mother, Maria Elisabetha, was 22. He was christened on 19 Oct 1747 in the Great Swamp Reformed Church, Spinnerstown, Montgomery, PA. Baptized in the Great Swamp Reformed Church near Spinnerstown. (Yoder, Vol 3 p 168).

Taking a warrant for 48 acres of land on 24 September 1767 Conrad began his life as a farmer. He was only 20 years old and unmarried at the time. He was a farmer in Heidelberg and was on the Heidelberg tax list up to 1786 for 162 acres. In 1786 he moved to Lynn Township where he own 15 acres, a grist mill, and a saw mill. P Tag

Conrad was married to Catherine Margaretha Giltner in 1767, in Heidelberg Township, Northampton, Pennsylvania. Catherine was born on 14 Sept 1760, Saxony, Germany, and died on 28 Mar 1812, Kingston, Ross Co., OH. She was buried in White Church Cem., Kingston, Ross Co., OH. They were the parents of at least 6 sons and 3 daughters, Jacob, Catherine, Conrad Jr, Philip, Abraham, Andreas, Anna Margaret, Johannes, Michael, and Mary Magdalene Riedy.

He appears on the Heidelberg tax list until 1786 with 162 acres of land. In 1786 he moved to Lynn Township where he owned 15 acres, a grist mill, and a saw mill. Conrad is listed in the 1790 Census of Lynn Township, with two males above age 16, six males under age 16, and four females.

Sometime around 1800 Conrad and his family moved to Buffalo Valley in Northumberland County (present‐day Union County) Conrad bought a section (640 acres) of land near Green Township, Ross County, Ohio also. Some of his children moved to this land before his death in 1807. The date of Conrad's death was recorded on a DAR application. Only Jacob and Andreas are mentioned in his will. In 1810, these two sons gave deeds to four younger brothers; John, Michael, Philip, and Abraham, each for one quarter of the section of land in Ross County, Ohio.

Conrad died on 8 March 1809, in Buffalo Valley, Northumberland, Pennsylvania, United States, at the age of 61, in Northumberland, PA., and was buried in Driesbach United Church of Christ Cem., Lewisburg, Union Co., PA. Many of Conrad’s descendants stayed in Pennsylvania and many more moved on to Ohio and Illinois. Lydia Ann Reedy Hall Patterson, Conrad’s gr‐granddaughter, and my gr‐gr‐grandmother, came to Illinois, in a covered wagon, from Pickaway Co., OH, in 1856. Lydia was a twelve year old girl on this journey and I am sure she was captivated by the adventure of it all. The Reedy family came to McDonough County, Illinois and the plat was laid out there for a new town, railroad and school. The town was named Reedyville. Unincorporated, the town became known as Adair, at the turn of the century, for the postmaster who resided there. Lydia was the mother of ten children and raised several grandchildren as well, following the death of her daughter Almeda. She ran the hotel in Adair and owned and operated the hotel in Bardolph, IL. The family Bible that made the trip to Illinois with Lydia is in the hands of the family today.
