William Rush

William Rush was born on Jan 1, 1765, in Morris Coounty, New Jersey, to Conrad and Susannah (Schoenbach) Rush. William Rush was a distant cousin of Benjamin Rush, MD, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. William Rush was living in Roxbury Township, Morris County, New Jersey when he entered the army of the American Revolution in 1780, and served as a Private in the New Jersey Troops. He was listed as an orderly sergeant, whose job was to convey orders. His service included the following: 1) March 1780, for three months under Capt. Stephen Brown and Col. Nathan Luse 2) Immediately after, for three months under Capt. William Logan and Col. Drake 3) Immediately after, for three months, three weeks, and three days under Capt. Stephen Brown and Col. Nathan Luse 4) April 1, 1781, for three months under Capt. William Logan and Col. Fralinghuysen 5) From July 1, 1781, for five months under Capt. Craig

He married Jane or Jean, whose maiden name was not stated, in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, on April 11, 1791. From 1792 through 1813, thirteen children were born to the couple. William applied for his pension on Sept 16, 1834, while living in Jefferson Township, Greene County, Pennsylvania, and it was allowed at the rate of $33.33 per annum, on certificate No. 30,360. He died February, 27, 1839, and the last payment of his pension was made on that date to J.W. Hailman, attorney to Jane Rush, widow. He is buried in the Huffman Cemetery, Morris Township, Greene County, Pennsylvania.

William and Jane’s second son Conrad Rush, was born in 1793, in Jefferson County, Pennsylvania. He married Patience Holmes, and they became the parents of eight children. After Conrad’s death in Hamilton County, Indiana in 1852, his widow could be found living in Chalmers Township, McDonough County, Illinois on the 1860 census with her son William J. Rush and his family.

William J. Rush (1822‐1893) married Mary Ann Clugston in McDonough County, Illinois, on February 22, 1856. They had nine children from 1856 through 1877. William J. was a farmer in Chalmers Township, McDonough County, Illinois. He died on July 16, 1893, and is buried beside his wife in Oakwood Cemetery, Macomb, McDonough County, Illinois.

Margaret Anna Rush was born in 1860, to William J. and Mary Ann Rush. She married John James Douglas Horrell on February 22, 1883, in McDonough County, Illinois. As a young couple they decided to head west and homestead in the southwest corner of Nebraska. Five children were born to John and Margaret Anna, but three of them died as young children. In 1900, they returned to McDonough County, Illinois so that their two living children, Jessie Catherine and Charles, could receive a good education.

Jessie Catherine Horrell, was born in a sod house on April 18, 1887, in Frontier County, Nebraka, to John and Margaret Anna Horrell. Jessie married James Grover Holstine on June 26, 1919. James was a farmer and a widower with three young children. Jessie and James would have four more children from 1920 to 1930 including Marjory Eloise Holstine. Jessie Catherine died on May 6, 1939, in Bethel Township, McDonough County, Illinois and is buried in Archer‐Bethel Cemetery in the Holstine family plot.

Marjory Eloise Holstine, was born on October 25, 1930, to James and Jessie on the family farm in Bethel Township, McDonough County, Illinois. She married Paul Elmer Parks on November 18, 1951 in Bethel Township, McDonough County, Illinois. Paul served in the United States Air Force from 1951‐1955 and was stationed at Maguire Air Force Base near Trenton, New Jersey. While in New Jersey, a daughter and a son where born. After being discharged from the Air Force and returning to their home state of Illinois to start farming, two more children were born to Paul and Marjory. Marjory died on Apr 26, 1983 in Macomb, Illinois and is buried in the Vermont Cemetery in Fulton County, Illinois.
