Thomas Wilder

Thomas Wilder was born 15 September 1737, in Lancaster, Worcester Co., MA. He was the son of Thomas Wilder and Mary White (3/31/1707-2/5/1771). Capt Thomas Wilder (2/5/1704-2/6/1771) served in the Revolutionary War, where he commanded a foot company from Leominster, that marched on the alarm for the relief of Fort William Henry.

Thomas married on 12 Feb 1759, Abigail, daughter of Nathaniel and Thankful (Sawyer) Carter. She was born 10 May 1741 and died 18 June 1813. The two of them lived on the old homestead near Chauloom (now Whalom) Lake, which was occupied by his descendant for the next eight generations, remaining occupied until 1897, when they sold the same and removed to Cliftondale, Mass. The buildings were accidentally burned in 1989.

Thomas Wilder died in Leominster, 6 Jan 1802, in Leominster, Worcester Co., MA. He is buried in Pine Grove Cem., Leominster, Worcester Co., MA. It is not known where Abigail is buried. His will proved 2 Feb 1802, mentions wife Abigail; sons, Peter A and Abel; daughters, Elizabeth Hale, Vashti Fairbank, Lucretia Joslyn and Abigail Lincoln, as well as sisters, Sarah, Ann and Ester Wilder.
