When Robert Wilson was born about 1743, in Christina, Maryland, British Colonial America, his father, Robert Wilson (1718‐1794), was 26 and his mother, Mary Douglas (1722‐1790), was 22. He was one of fifteen children of Robert and Mary. His siblings were Margaret 17421‐1815, Robert 1743‐1843, Sarah 1745‐1800, Nathan 1745‐1843, Jane 1747‐1832, Martha 1749‐1850, James 1751‐1828, Elizabeth 1731‐183, Thomas 1755‐1835, Euphron 1757‐1843, Agnes 1760‐ 1857, James 1763‐ , Susannah 1765‐1853, and Priscilla 1767‐1853.

John married Mary Robbins (1755‐1815) and together they had at least nine children, five 5 sons and four daughters. Their children were Edward Mason 1780‐1853, Rebekah 1781 ‐, Mary 1782‐ 1862, John Mark 1783‐1854, Thomas 1785‐1856, Robert W Jr 1788‐1868, Elizabeth 1794‐ , John 1800 ‐, and Nancy.

During the American Revolutionary War, Robert was a Private in the New Jersey Militia, in Hunterdon, NJ, (Pension Application *S17786). He served in the war for 26 months under Captain William Hazlet and Col. Bonnell. Following the Revolutionary War, he lived in Leesburg, Loudon County, Virginia for the 23 years. Robert died on 1 Sept 1843, in Hendrysburg, Belmont Co., OH, at the age of 101. He was buried in Morristown, Union Twp., Belmont Co., OH.

"James Canary of Monroe Co. Ohio stated that he was acquainted with Robert Wilson, Sr., and that he believed him to have been about 85 years of age, and a soldier in the revolution." "...Robert Wilson Sr stated that he was born near Crestene, Maryland A.D. 1747, and that a record of his birth was preserved in a book which he had at home. He mentioned the above Anne Wilson, and James Canary as persons who could testify as to his service...."
