Welcome to our home on the information
superhighway.
The
Stephen A. Douglas Chapter is one of 107 Daughters of the American
Revolution (DAR) chapters in the state of Illinois. The DAR
is a
non-profit, non-political volunteer women's service organization
dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and
securing America's future through better education.
The
DAR gives members an opportunity for service in many areas. It is a way
to join with others in trying to make America a better place to
live. DAR offers an opportunity to meet people with similar
interest, develop friendships, and to join others who cherish the
priceless heritage enjoyed by all while promoting the ideals of
patriotism and love of country.
We look forward to meeting
you and helping you to become a part of this great organization. Our
members are from a variety of backgrounds and occupations and range in
age from young to 'experienced' with many different talents
contributing to our volunteer efforts. Our interests range from A to Z
and everything in between!
Did you know that there are
approximately 3,000 DAR chapters in the United States and abroad? Our
common link is that we all trace our lineage back to a man or woman who
helped to achieve American independence. Are you eligible to join?
There are only two requirements:
*be a woman at least eighteen years of age
*provide
proof of direct descent from a patriot (man or woman) who helped to
gain American independence. Some patriots were members of the military,
but others may have provided food for the troops. There are many ways
that made a person a patriot.
We would be delighted to help you search for your patriot
ancestor.
