Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a Patriot of the American Revolutionary War, is eligible to join the DAR. DAR defines a "Patriot" as one who provided service or assistance in achieving America's independence.
Genealogy is by far one of the most popular hobbies in the United States. Expertise and skill levels vary considerably from novice to professional genealogy gurus. Joining the DAR does not require an interest in genealogy, but it helps to have some knowledge of one’s ancestry. At the very least, you will need to gather documents for yourself, your parents, grandparents, and possibly great-grandparents. Our members are always willing to assist you!
