DAR GOOD CITIZENSHIP AWARD

At our March 8, meeting, we presented the following students with the Good Citizenship Award. The DAR Good Citizen program and scholarship contest is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. Each of the following High Schools has chosen one senior from their school that exemplifies a model student: Macomb High School, West Prairie High School, Bushnell Prairie-City High School, and Rushville-Industry High School. The Good Citizen program looks for the following qualities of good citizenship: dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism. The four winners for this year are as follows. Congratulations ladies!

Morgan is the daughter of Alissa and Thomas. She is a senior at Bushnell Prairie-City High School. At school she has been a class officer, a member of the National Honor Society and she has participated in many activities through the FFA. She has also been in cheerleading. Morgan has been able to balance her school life with her part time job, which is working at Hart’s Nursery. She has worked there for several years learning a good work ethic and being a good listener. Her future plans are to attend college and study to be an English and language arts teacher. Congratulations to you Morgan and best of luck pursuing your teaching career.

Maicyn is the daughter of Mandi and Chris. She represents West Prairie High School. Maicyn has been in many activities at school and in her community. For 5 years she has been active in many FFA activities, one that she has really enjoyed helping with is Ag Day. She has helped with basketball camps and she has been a softball coach in the summer. As you can tell, she is a lover of sports. Maicyn has strengthened her leadership skills by being a part of the leadership team at her church and also by teaching Jr. High students there. Her future plans include attending Western Illinois University majoring in Early Childhood Education. She hopes to work as a Pre-School teacher locally. Congratulations, Maicyn, we know the rewards of being a teacher will be great.

Avery attends Rushville-Industry High School and is the daughter of Tonya and Chad. Her activities are many and include volleyball, track, power tumbling, dance, FFA and Student Council. In her free time she works at Boehm’s Garden Center and on her family farm. Her future plans are to apply to the Air Force Academy majoring in Aeronautical Engineering. She aspires to fly for the US Air Force. Congratulations, Avery, and we applaud you for your willingness to serve your country.

Griffin attends Macomb High School and is the daughter of Angie and Scott. Griffin has many fine arts activities that keep her very busy. She’s active in choir, Thespians and Art Club. Griffin also enjoys participating on the math and speech teams. She also has time for tennis, track and wrestling. Her academics include National Honor Society and Senior of the Month. Griffin’s hobbies are drawing, painting, acting, and swimming. Her work experience has been working as a custodian at her school during the last 2 summers. She also does dog sitting and she has helped with a local food truck. Griffin’s future plans are to pursue a career in the medical field because she really wants to help people. Congratulations, Griffin, we know with all your good organization skills and empathy towards those that need help, you will be very successful in the medical field.
