SAR 40th Congress in Springfield, Illinois

 

Noble Stockton and Barbara Jane Searcy

May 20, 1929. A basket of flowers was presented to Mrs. Lowell F. Hobart, President General of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution who was in Springfield to present an elm tree to the National Congress of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR.) Barbara Jane Searcy, daughter of State Senator and Mrs. Earl B. Searcy; and Noble Stockton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Constant N. Stockton, dressed in costumes of a colonial dame and gentleman to present the flowers.

December 4, 1929. A bronze marker was dedicated at the elm tree (presented on May 20) on the north grounds of the Illinois State Centennial Building "In Commemoration of the 40th Congress of the SAR". Both SAR and DAR inscribed. The marker is unfortunately missing.
