The WORLD WAR II MEMORIAL CHALLENGE
Taken from "Congress Herald" Monday, May 17, 2017
The Daughters of the American Revolution has been involved in a nationwide effort to raise
funds for a Memorial which will pay tribute to the men and women who joined forces in a just
and common cause to preserve freedom and save the world from tyranny. The participation of
the DAR in this national effort has won recognition and praise throughout the United States.
The DAR has made a remarkable contribution to the World War II Memorial in the amount of
$460,000+ as of April 1, 2001, and donations continue to arrive in the national headquarters.
Not only have the Daughters honored 38,371 patriots of World War II, but they have at the same time published
the NSDAR World War II Book of Remembrance where the names of honorees and donors are recorded in
the six handsome volumes. The Book of Remembrance will become a part of the DAR Archives.
One set will be available in the DAR Library and another will be given to the National World War II
Memorial Committee.
The National World War II Memorial Committee has indicated there will be an electronic listing
of honorees at the Memorial site on the Mall in Washington. This committee has arranged for the
entire DAR database to be merged into the National Memorial database available at the Memorial site.
