About the Agent Elizabeth Burgin Society N.S.C.A.R.
The Agent Elizabeth Burgin Society was formed in Chicago, Illinois in 2023, as part of the National Society Children of the American Revolution (N.S.C.A.R.) and is sponsored by the Culper Ring Agent 355 Chapter, NSDAR. Our Society is named after Agent Elizabeth Burgin who risked her life working under the direction of General George Washington’s Culper Spy Ring. In a matter of weeks, Elizabeth freed over 200 prisoners from Britain prison ships, many of them being officers in the Continental Army. While Elizabeth worked to free these prisoners, the British intercepted correspondence between Agent George Highway and General George Washington. As the British went to go and arrest another agent, the agent gave up Elizabeth’s name and a bounty of $27,000 was placed on her head. Today, this would be close to $1,000,000. Burgin narrowly escaped and quickly made her way to hide in Long Island. Being one of about a dozen women who could possibly be Agent 355, Agent Elizabeth Burgin is often referred to as the hidden daughter of the American Revolution.
