Have you ever thought about the role that your female ancestors played in the Revolutionary War? Women and other under recognized individuals played an important role in the formation of our great nation. We'd like to share our chapter's female partiot with you.
Susannah Willard Arms
Susannah of Josiah Willard, commander of Fort Dimmer, and his wife Hannah Wilder. Susannah married, in December 1743, John Arms by whom she had 6 children: Willard; Susannah; Josiah; Hannah; Lucinda; and John Willard.
After Susannah's husband John died in March 1770, she continued to operate the Arms Tavern in Brattleboro until succeeded by her son Josiah who was its operator by at the least September 1782, when his inn was under the jurisdiction of Vermont as enforced by a detachment of its militia under the command of Brigadier General Ethan Allen.
