What We Do

Sauk Trail Chapter supports the military and veterans through projects including:

Chicago Stand-down events and Honor Flights
Retired Air Force Staff Sergeant Ed Bremer of Crete, Illinois looks at the Lincoln Memorial with volunteer Ryan Wilson. They are among 100 Chicago-area World War II and Korean War veterans who participated in an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., in July 2018.

Wreaths Across America Project
Chapter members donated 74 wreaths for the Wreaths Across America (WAA) program to decorate the graves of veterans at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery (ALNC) in Elwood, Illinois. By supporting efforts to place the wreaths through Operation Care Package, that support is used to supply care packages to our active military personnel.

NSDAR National Day of Service
Various members participate in the annual National Day of Service by clean ups and rehabilitating forgotten grave sites at the St. Paul Cemetery in Monee, Illinois. This project will be continuing in the next few years. Members uncover stones that are overgrown as well as inventory those stones of veterans. It's one of the ways we help preserve our cultural heritage through historic preservation.

Patriotism, Historic Preservation, and Education
The Sauk Trail Chapter follows our National Society efforts of promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and supporting our country's future by improving education of children. We generously support our veterans through donations to the Manteno Veteran's home, the WAA program, and apparel for veterans at Operation Stand Down. The two DAR schools, two Native American schools, and the four DAR supported schools are a major focus of the chapter. Locally, Glenwood Academy received scholarship monies and we donate to the South Suburban Family Shelter to help families in need.
